Relentless In Reaching
This Summer, we are maximizing the best weather months to help introduce our friends to the best person they could meet all summer: Jesus. Our building remains closed, but the church is WIDE OPEN.
I am so encouraged by the stories I keep hearing of how God is at work in and through Watch Parties. Church is happening on driveways, back patios and in garages. Folks who have never attended a single service at the building are attending services at your building, your home and your apartment.
This esprit de corps reminds me of a teaching series I did a few years ago titled “The DNA of a Dangerous Church”. A key strand of this DNA is a RELENTLESSNESS IN REACHING PEOPLE. That kind of church is an actual threat to Satan and his kingdom. That kind of church doesn’t shrink back... that kind of church advances EVEN in the hardest of conditions.
We were that church pre-COVID, we will be that church post-COVID and WE ARE THAT CHURCH mid-COVID.
A phrase I refuse to say is “stay safe”. It’s not because I’m old school, it’s because I hold a deeply theological belief that Jesus did not rescue me to live a safe life. Jesus calls us to CONTINUE what he started. Tell me, what is safe about touching a leper? What is safe about forgiving a woman caught in adultery? What is safe about healing on the Sabbath? What is safe about inviting a tax collector to represent your “brand”? What is safe about carrying your own cross to your own death? The more I examine the life of Christ, the fewer “safe things” I find. Jesus was dangerous in all of the best ways and for all of the right reasons.
Pastor Mark Buchanan, wrote a book I recommend you read. In his book, Your God is Too Safe he writes: “God’s main business is not in making you comfortable or safe, it is without question in making you holy. The God who calls us out of the boat of self preservation, the God who longs to shake us out of our drowsy indifference is the God who is full of both grace and truth.”
So, if you’d like to join in on continuing the DNA of a Dangerous Church, then host or join a Watch Party. As you take that step this summer, please keep this in mind... we did not create these for ONLY the already convinced. We created these Watch Parties with the purpose of reaching people with the love of Jesus.
