DNA

Every person, family and organization has its own DNA.  Some folks are very different from one another, while others have lots in common.  We tend to choose where we go, who we spend our time with, and what we get involved with based on our preferences, history and what makes us feel comfortable.

A changing environment can cause us to have to adapt in ways that we wouldn’t have necessarily chosen.  This is true for individuals, AND for organizations.  Churches are no exception.  They all have things that make them unique and special.  Strong leaders are able to identify those things - those uniquenesses or common goals that make their church who “they” are.  Strong leaders also know that in order to adapt to a changing environment, they have to be willing to hold on to the most valuable traits, and let go of others.

Around Mission, you’ll hear over and over that we are “Helping People Find and Follow Christ”.  This core will not change.  The WAY it is done may look different, but the mission is the same.  Sundays look very different around 82 Stratford Drive lately, but Watch Parties are effectively carrying out that same mission in ways that meeting onsite could not.

So, how can this apply to you personally?  What makes up your personal “DNA”?  What is essential and should continue to help you grow in your relationships with God and others?  What things should continue, but need adapted to fit the changing environment? What things should you stop doing in order to move toward growth?

In Canoeing The Mountains, Tod Bolsinger writes “The conflict generated by these discussions can quickly cause leaders to avoid them if possible.  Add to that the understandable desire to quickly find win-win solutions to problems and before we know it, we are back to our old defaults, using strategies that have already proven themselves to be inadequate.  We are canoeing without rivers once again.”

Let's choose God’s BEST path forward.
