Lent Devotional • Day 7
Day 7
Will you entrust to God that which you treasure the most?
Today’s Scripture Reading - Genesis 22:1-19
In Genesis, we follow the journey of Abraham’s faith being developed. In Genesis 22, that faith was tested. He was asked by God to sacrifice what he treasured most - His son, Isaac.
What we see next is an unbelievable example of not only obedience but FAST obedience. Verse 3 tells us that “Early the next morning Abraham got up and loaded his donkey.” No delay. No hesitation. Did he understand? Most certainly not. Did he obey? Yes.
Abraham’s FAITH preceded his UNDERSTANDING. Faith believes in advance what will only make sense in reverse.
What a test, right? Tests reveal two things: our priorities, and God’s providence.
Our level of faith today is not adequate for the test tomorrow. Obedience is critical. Obedience grows us, matures us, humbles us, and stretches us. We must be obedient to pass the test today to build our faith for the test tomorrow.
Will you entrust to God that which you treasure the most?
What is that for you? Your children? Your relationship? Your career? Your future? Your craft or sport?
Faith believes in advance what will only make sense in reverse.
“Faith is taking the next step even though you don’t see the whole staircase.” -Martin Luther King, Jr.
