Lent Devotional • Day 15
Is It Wise?
Today’s Scripture Reading - Proverbs 8:1-11
“wisdom is more precious than rubies,
and nothing you desire can compare with her.”
-Proverbs 8:11
The book of Proverbs is based all around wisdom. Proverbs consists of wise probabilities, not promises. Wisdom.
Wisdom is something you cannot see. It is more precious than treasures. Wisdom is an invisible force similar to gravity - you can’t see it, but it affects everything in this world.
Anyone can access wisdom.
In his book “Ask It” by Andy Stanley, he says:
“Just because there isn’t a ‘Thou shalt not’ attached to a situation does not necessarily mean it is a ‘Thou shalt.’ What’s morally and culturally permissible is often not what’s best for us.”
“Your greatest regret could have been avoided had you asked this particular question and then acted on your conclusion.”
Is it wise?
If we follow the wisdom of the Proverbs, we should replace “what is allowed” with “what is wise”. Here are 4 examples.
When it comes to your future growth, what’s the wise thing to do?
When it comes to protecting those you love, what’s the wise thing to do?
When it comes to representing Jesus well, what’s the wise thing to do?
When it comes to the commitments you’ve made, what’s the wise thing to do?
Replace the question of permission with the question of wisdom.
“Be very careful, then, how you live—not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity”
-Ephesians 5:15
