Recalculating

Do you ever get the sense that your GPS is annoyed with you when it says “recalculating”? Like there is a hint of “you dummy, I told you to go THAT way” in the tone? Pro tip - the British voice sounds less annoyed than some of the other voices. You may want to switch over.

We’ve all been there. Driving along and we miss a turn, causing the “recalculating” response from our GPS or phone. It then works quickly to find the best route from the current location. Occasionally, it will tell you to make a u-turn and go back the way you came, but more often, it re-routes to your destination a new way given your current location.

Our lives can be like this sometimes. We’re going along and all of a sudden, we realize that we are off course. Perhaps it is a conflict with a co-worker, family member, or someone else. Maybe it is that moment that you give into temptation. It might even be allowing your thoughts or words to go too far, and crossing that line from right to wrong - from typical to sin.

I love the fact that in these situations, the voice that says “recalculating” is God’s. He doesn’t sound annoyed or inconvenienced. He simply wants to direct us back to becoming more like Christ. Becoming more like Him is the destination that we should have our heart’s GPS set to. The best part about this is that the moment we turn back toward where God is leading us, we are closer to that destination. God’s ultimate goal is to get you - and your heart - back on course.

So, let’s make sure that we are set to the correct final destination - becoming more like Him!
