Castles to Grace

Castles may seem like things from distant and historical lands or fictitious stories. To a degree, that is true. On another level, we all build castles of our own every day. We build them out of our jobs, our families, our hobbies, our pastimes. We build castles out of the things that consume our time, our attention and our affections.

We think of castles as things of beauty, but that is not always the case. When we put priorities on the castles of our jobs, social media, or other priorities rather than on God, our families or our spiritual and emotional health, a “shift” begins in our “kingdom”. We begin to be drawn away from, or distracted from things that should be priorities. We begin to be “owned” by responsibilities, commitments, or interests that are outside of God’s priorities for us.

When we make the conscious decision to focus on GRACE, rather than our own agendas, our entire perspective will begin to shift. In “Everybody, Always”, Bob Goff says “Jesus told his friends that letting people see the way we love each other would be the best way to let people know about Him.” He continues by saying “Loving people means caring without agenda. As soon as we have an agenda, it’s not love anymore. It’s acting like you care to get someone to do what you want or what you think God wants them to do. Do less of that, and people will see a lot less of you and more of Jesus.”

So, how do YOU shift from your castle perspective to a grace perspective today?
