3 Ways to Hear from God
Field of Dreams. Man, such a classic movie! I love watching Ray try to navigate the voices he hears from the cornfield. Now, most of us will go our whole lives without hearing audible messages from cornfields, and I think we’re ok with that. What I want to make sure we don’t miss, though, is hearing from God.
So, how do we do it? How do we hear from Him in the midst of the noise in our lives? It takes being intentional and here are 3 ways we can do it.
We hear from God through the Bible.
We hear from God directly from the words written in scripture. The Bible is literally God’s voice available to us at any time. We can read stories about Him and messages that he sent or spoke to people throughout history. Take Abraham and Joshua, for example. Dudes conversed with God directly or heard messages from His voice. Jacob heard from God through dreams. All of these accounts are written in the Bible so that we can read them and hear from God as well. The Bible teaches us, trains us, corrects us, challenges us, and even changes us. God’s messages to us are all through it.We hear from God through creation.
The very beauty and complexity of God’s creation speak volumes to me about who He is. He’s detailed, thoughtful, thorough, and pretty darn amazing! When I spend time in the wonder of creation, then wrap my head around the fact that the God who created all of it cares about every hair on MY HEAD… man! He speaks volumes of love for us in each piece! We hear from God through people.
God often puts people into our lives to speak to us through. He uses our voices in each other’s lives to challenge one another, support one another, and sometimes confront or correct one another. We may hear from Him through a mentor, from a friend, or at times even from someone we have just met. God often uses others in my own life to show me a new perspective, or a vantage point I had not considered before. He may speak to you through people who you trust, who love God and who love you; people who will speak the truth and give you their honest and their prayerful words.
So, taking our Bibles into creation (cornfield perhaps?) with some friends is sounding like a great idea now, huh? And “if we listen, He will speak”. Mission’s Growth Track has 2 out of 3 - which makes me wonder if we should start hosting it outdoors?
Last Sunday 170 folks registered for their Course, and we are pumped! I am confident they will hear from God this fall. Will you join them?
The Growth Track is Mission Church’s plan to prepare you to Go and help people find and follow Christ. It’s how we at Mission obey Jesus’ command to Go in Matthew 28:19. Courses designed for growth, and built to launch.
